Microsoft has been one of the largest multinational computer technology corporations, creating various milestones in manufacturing, licensing and supporting many software products for computing devices. Not surprisingly it has put a big step forward in Smartphone business too. A Smartphone can be well termed as a small screen, data centric, hand held device. It is designed in such a manner to offer complete phone function and simultaneously functioning as a personal digital assistant (PDA). Giving a work force both mobile and connected it led to business success. Microsoft unveiled its latest new Windows Mobile 6 smart phone software in February 2007 as a step to improve the world's fastest growing mobile operating system. Signing a deal with the third largest mobile phone maker, LG electronics, in February 2009, Microsoft has started licensing Windows mobile on 50 upcoming LG smart phone models. Microsoft branded Smartphone's included specific hardware devices that differ from pocket PC phones. Microsoft's main focus in Smartphone platform was to create a device that functioned as a phone and data device in a well-integrated manner. In this growing Smartphone business Microsoft occupies 13% of the market share. It faces a stiff competition with phone giant Nokia and Apple. |
